What to expect

  • To determine whether Cedrus Psychiatry may be a good fit for you, book a 15 minute phone conversation on the appointment page. This conversation is free of charge, and will allow to share some context to the patient situation and to review the practice key policies and fees. Note that this call is not the beginning of a doctor–patient relationship.

If both the patient and the psychiatrist mutually agree that Cedrus Psychiatry is a clinically appropriate match, we will then schedule an initial evaluation appointment, and you will receive a link to the Charm Health patient portal as well as the intake paperwork to complete.

All required paperwork and documents must be completed and submitted at least three (3) business days in advance via the Charm Health patient portal, as this is required in order to proceed with the initial evaluation

You will then attend your initial appointment(s). It is typically a 120-minute session.

    • Initial appointment(s) function as a consultation only. At the end of this process, we may mutually decide to establish ongoing care.

    • You may decide to seek care elsewhere, and at times the psychiatrist may determine that you require care best served from another provider or in another treatment context.

    • Initial evaluations are preferably completed in person, as this often allows for stronger engagement, diagnostic clarity, and the development of a therapeutic rapport. Telepsychiatry intake may be considered in limited circumstances and can be discussed in advance.

    • Subsequent visits may be conducted either in person or via secure video (telepsychiatry), based on clinical appropriateness and mutual agreement.

    • If the first appointment is missed, it is not guaranteed that it will be rescheduled, as initial appointment times are limited

  • Follow-up visits are in person or via telehealth, are generally offered in:

    • 50‑minute sessions (psychotherapy + medication management, psychotherapy, or more complex presentations/needs, when appropriate)

    • 25‑minute sessions (medication management focused)

Visit frequency is tailored to each patient’s clinical needs, as well as applicable safety and prescribing standards. To support safe, ethical, and continuous care, active patients are typically seen at least once every three months. Most patients follow up every few weeks to every few months, depending on clinical needs and treatment goals. When clinically appropriate, more frequent visits (such as weekly or monthly) may be recommended.

  • Cedrus Psychiatry offers one-time consultation and second-opinion evaluations for patients seeking additional diagnostic clarity or treatment guidance. These in-depth evaluations include a comprehensive review of prior records, extensive clinical assessment, and individualized, evidence-based recommendations. A brief consultation call is required prior to scheduling. Appointments are typically 120–180 minutes in length, and all relevant records must be submitted at least three business days in advance. Ongoing care is established only if mutually agreed upon.

  • Cedrus Psychiatry operates in two locations: Bethesda and Rockville. In-person consultations in Rockville are available on Mondays. In-person consultations in Bethesda are available on Tuesday morning and Fridays. Patients can chose whichever location is the most convenient for them. Virtual appointments can be booked anytime on Mondays, Tuesday morning and Fridays.

  • Prescriptions are typically sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy using a secure e-prescribing system.

Refill requests are submitted through the secure patient portal and generally require an upcoming scheduled appointment. To help avoid gaps in treatment, requests should be made at least one week before medication runs out. Early refills are uncommon and considered only in limited circumstances.

Controlled medications are prescribed in accordance with state and federal regulations and usually require regular in-person visits. Prescription monitoring programs may be reviewed as part of safe prescribing practices. Telepsychiatry visits may be appropriate in some cases, though ongoing prescribing of controlled medications typically involves in-person care.
